Intrepid adventurer and lecturer Mark Jordan presents the fascinating true story of the mission, the men and the mutiny that occurred on the HMS Bounty in 1789. While many may be familiar with the story, Jordan will share how the story ends: the notorious Captain Bligh’s miraculous 4,000-mile journey in a 23-foot boat; the disappearance of Fletcher Christian and his mutineers; and the eventual discovery of the mutineers’ whereabouts 20 years later.

About the presenter: Mark Jordan is a retired attorney with an abiding interest in exploration. He teaches and lectures on the Lewis and Clark Expedition, Shakespeare and Sir Ernest Shackleton at numerous venues including the Walnut Creek Library, the Blackhawk Museum, Cal State University East Bay, Santa Clara University and the University of South Carolina. He has been interested in the mutiny on the HMS Bounty and its aftermath since seeing the 1935 Charles Laughton-Clark Gable film as a young boy. He has delved into its literature, including the journals of Bligh and some of the ship’s crew; the court martials; contemporary narratives; and even the fictional accounts to weave together this presentation.
