In Between and Walkin’ Down the Middle: The Metis of Montana, Talk and Book Signing with Candi Zion

Join author Candi Zion as she talks about her book, In Between People: The Metis of Central Montana and Walkin’ Down the Middle: The Hi-Line Metis. Learn more about this distinctive cultural group, sometimes known as the children of the fur trade. Zion interviewed descendants of early Métis settlers in central Montana and the Hi-Line, who relayed stories about their families' experiences of persecution in Canada and prejudice in the United States. They also talked about their devout Catholic faith; the tough living, strong work ethic, and secrecy that shaped their family cultures; and shared stories about education, rodeo, movie careers, and military service.

About the Presenter: Candi Zion has received an Honors Degree from Barrett College and a Bachelor’s Degree from Arizona State University as well as a Mater’s Degree in Historic Preservation from the same. She worked as the Missoula Historic Preservation Officer, managed historic facilities program for the Navajo Nation Historic Preservation Departments, worked as an independent consultant documenting and surveying numerous neighborhoods and historic buildings, and conducted archaeological surveys and oral interview projects through CZ consulting.
